Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborodudu has revealed that she has transitioned into a new role as a scout for the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, where she is now responsible for identifying and nurturing the next generation of wrestling talents.
Oborodudu, who made history with her silver medal performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, said her new assignment reflects her commitment to giving back to the sport that shaped her career.
“I am now working as a scout for the federation, and my responsibility is to discover young talents who can represent Nigeria in the future,” she said.
The former African champion expressed confidence in the depth of wrestling talent across the country, stressing that Nigeria remains blessed with gifted athletes waiting for opportunities and structured development.
“There are many talented young wrestlers in Nigeria. What they need is proper guidance, exposure and the right environment to grow,” she explained.
Oborodudu noted that early identification and structured training are critical if Nigeria hopes to remain competitive at continental and global competitions.
“We cannot wait until athletes are already grown before investing in them. The work starts from grassroots level,” she added.
Having experienced the pressures of competing on the world stage, Oborodudu said she understands the demands of elite competition and is eager to use her knowledge to prepare future champions.
“I have seen what it takes to compete at the highest level. I want to help prepare young wrestlers so that when they get there, they are ready,” she said.
She further expressed optimism that Nigeria can continue producing medal contenders at major tournaments, including the Olympics and World Championships.
“The potential is there. If we nurture it properly, Nigeria will keep winning medals,” Oborodudu concluded.
Her transition into talent identification marks a new chapter in her journey, as she shifts focus from competing on the mat to shaping the future of Nigerian wrestling from the sidelines.
