In a recent interview with Sports 247, Bishop Olufemi reflected on his team’s experience in NLO1, stating, “The experience was positive. It was our second outing in the NLO1, and our boys performed admirably, securing a respectable position in a challenging group. We are grateful to God for their achievements.”

Looking ahead to NLO2, Bishop Olufemi expressed his hopes for his team’s performance, particularly emphasizing his commitment to nurturing young talent. He explained, “I want them to excel. The players in NLO2 are younger than those who participated in NLO1. We introduced them to the NLO2 youth league because we are passionate about youth development. As a man of God, I focus on the youth because I believe in their energy and receptiveness to instructions. By God’s grace, I am confident they will deliver better results.”

Furthermore, Bishop Olufemi shared his thoughts on grassroots football and the importance of providing opportunities for showcasing talent on an international level. He stressed the need for increased support and resources, including financial assistance, adequate facilities, stadiums, and training spaces to enhance player performance. He also urged the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to allocate stipends for grassroots football players and coaches, highlighting the challenges they face in terms of welfare and recognition.

In terms of player development, Bishop Olufemi called for a comprehensive framework, including a constitution to protect the rights and interests of grassroots coaches and club owners. He highlighted the need for government programs to scout talented players and facilitate their transition to foreign clubs, ultimately benefiting the development of grassroots football in their communities. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of fair selection processes based on skills rather than financial capabilities, addressing a prevalent issue affecting the national team.

Addressing grassroots coaches, Bishop Olufemi encouraged them to persist in their endeavours, emphasizing the positive impact they have on shaping the nation’s future. He advised footballers to complement their sports careers with vocational skills, fostering a well-rounded approach to personal development. Lastly, he emphasized the significance of prayer in the planning and execution of their football endeavors.

TCCG FC and BOFA FC, despite their relatively short existence of four years, have achieved notable success. In their inaugural year, they triumphed in the Ikorodu Divisional League within just three months. They continued their winning streak by clinching the Ajide’s U20 Cup in Surulere two years ago, followed by victory in the Super Hits Cup last year.

With NLO2 underway, Bishop Olufemi expressed high expectations for BOFA FC, aiming to secure qualification and emerge victorious in all matches. He attributed his optimism to an experienced head coach, a steadfast belief in God, and a collective determination to surpass the achievements of TCCG FC in NLO1.
