BIG BOOST FOR AMAZONS 2.0! Prize Money Increased as Lagos Set for Women’s Tennis Showdown

Organisers of the Amazons Tennis Tournament have announced a significant increase in prize money ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 edition, scheduled for March 28 at the historic Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

This year’s tournament, tagged Amazons 2.0, continues its rapid growth, with over 130 female athletes set to compete in celebration of International Women’s Month, making it one of the largest women-focused tennis events in Nigeria.

In recognition of the players’ dedication and rising competitiveness, organisers confirmed an improved prize structure:

Winner: ₦300,000
Runner-Up: ₦200,000

The prize money is sponsored by Igboya Bitters, whose CEO, Okafor Ugochukwu Edwin, expressed strong support for the initiative and its impact on women’s empowerment.

“Our women are precious jewels we cannot celebrate enough. Supporting this tournament was an easy decision for us,” he said.

“It is important to reward effort, encourage participation, and promote a healthy and strong community of women through sport.”
