The former Kwara State Director of Sports secured the appointment following the federation’s first board meeting held in Abuja.

Speaking on Tunde-kazeem reappointment, the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih said the experience of the former African Badminton Federation (ABF) instructor remains invaluable to the sport.

Orbih, who is also an Executive Board Member of the Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA), described Mallam Kazeem as a valuable asset not only to Nigeria but to the African badminton community.

He said, “The reappointment of Mallam Tunde Kazeem is based on merit because he has contributed immensely to the federation and we still need his wealth of experience.

“As a former national coach, African Badminton Federation (ABF) instructor, retired Director of Sports, and former Chairman of the Directors of Sports Forum in Nigeria, he has sacrificed so much for the sport and his technical expertise is still needed on the board.”

Responding to the appointment, the newly reappointed Technical Director, Tunde Kazeem, commended BFN President Francis Orbih for his investment and commitment to the development of badminton in Nigeria.

Kazeem noted that Orbih’s re-election is a reflection of his achievements over the past two terms and his role in raising Nigeria’s profile in African badminton.

The member of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Technical and Development Commission said, “I want to thank the board for appointing me as the Technical Director of the BFN. This is a call to serve and I promise to give my best.

“We must align with the vision of the Executive Board Member of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to produce more Olympians like Anuoluwapo Opeyori, who has been Africa’s number one for five consecutive years.

“We must also recognise our Para-badminton medalists such as Eniola Bolaji, who is world number one, and Jeremiah Nnanna, who is ranked world number eight.

“Orbih’s re-election is a strong testament to his good work over the past eight years, as he becomes the first badminton president to be elected for a third term.

“We have produced three African umpires, elevated 14 coaches to Level 1, three to Level 2, and we expect many more in the future.”
