The Bethel captain, who models his game after Wilfred Ndidi, played a key leadership role throughout the tournament, anchoring the midfield with discipline and composure.
His side finished second in Group A with six points, recording wins over SGFC Athletics and 36 Lions, with their only defeat coming against group leaders Klassisch Football Academy.
Reflecting on the third-place playoff, Friday admitted mixed emotions despite the victory. “The performance was so good. We worked hard to be in the final, but unfortunately we couldn’t. All thanks to God for the third-place finish,” he said.
The encounter itself was dramatic, with Bethel Sporting taking the lead before Ikorodu City responded through Dagogo Obifubara, having earlier missed a penalty in regulation time.
Friday revealed his frustration at a key moment in the match but credited his goalkeeper’s reliability. “I was furious with the controversial penalty call at first, but my belief in the goalkeeper kept me on in the game,” he added—confidence that ultimately paid off during the shootout.
As a defensive midfielder, Friday emphasized the importance of teamwork and consistency as the backbone of Bethel’s campaign.
“We are working so hard to be at the top always, and we keep pushing for consistency,” he noted, highlighting the squad’s strong bond and shared ambition.
Beyond the tournament, the young captain sees the Jagaban Cup as a vital stepping stone. “It’s a great opportunity for young talents to be exposed to the real professional journey in the game,” he said.
Looking ahead, Friday did not hide his dreams. The midfielder aims to play in Europe, with a particular ambition of featuring for Chelsea FC, while also aspiring to represent the Nigerian national team.
