The ongoing 31st edition of a well attended ladies’ competing organised by the golf section of Benin Club is set to hit a pulsating climax this Saturday in the ancient caputal of Edo State, Sports247 reports.
The competition, which is officially known as Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Ladies Open, teed off this past Wednesday with pomp and pageantry, as women from various clubs hit the lush green course, where male players also entered in various categories on Friday.
Playing under the theme ‘Golf and Elegance’ at the serene venue in Benin City GRA, the competition intensified with the men’s handicap 0-18 category witnessed exciting displays, as the male players excitedly joined the quest for titles in the elite annual competition.
Friday’s run of play also saw the ladies handicap 1-28 category enter day two, after their gross event teed off in large numbers on Thursday, a day after this year’s event was officially declared open at the arena.
It began with a ceremonial tee-off that featured over 100 women golfers, led by the captain of BCGS Ladies Division, Mrs. Joy Omorogiuwa, in conjunction with the president of Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed and other executive committee members.
A total of 45 qualifiers were expected to emerge on Friday from the ladies handicap 1-28 gross event for spots in Saturday’s final of the event, which has also witnessed thrilling contests from higher handicappers (29-36), veterans, super veterans and men’s handicap 19-28.
Sports247 gathered further that over 200 golfers from across Nigeria are participating in this year’s BCGS Golf Classic, which the organisers declared that they happy to see it continues to foster unity in the state as well as elegance and excellence in golf.
