Bendel Insurance Wins NNL Super 4, As Governor Diri Of Bayelsa Pledges Continuous Support For Sports Development

Bendel Insurance are Champions of the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super four tournament held at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Bendel Insurance beat Doma United of Gombe 2-1 in a game watched by Bayelsa State governor Senator Douye Diri alongside other government officials.

The Benin Arsenal took the lead on 38 minute from hit man Austin Ogunye through Divine Nwachukwu beautifully connected pass to beat Doma United goalkeeper Farouk Umar to end the first with a goal up.

Joshua Enoch on 55 minute restore parity for Doma United from a Bendel Insurance defensive blunder, however experienced striker Ebenezer Odeyemi made it 2-1 on 75 minutes to ensure that Bendel Insurance return to Benin with the trophy.

Insurance finished the tournament with seven points, Bayelsa United four points, El-Kanemi Warriors four points while Doma United could only manage a point.

Meanwhile the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri in his closing remark commended the leadership of the Nigeria National League (NNL) for bringing the Super Four to Bayelsa, stating that he was impressed by the level officiating.

Governor Diri who described poor officiating as a menace bedeviling the Nigerian football noted that the the only way Nigeria football can get global attention was to overcome the issue of bad officiating, pointing out that the Prosperity administration would give premium attention to sports development.

An elated Bendel Insurance, Coach Greg Ikhenoba said his team is still rebuilding for the new season despite clinching the super four trophy, stressing that they have penciled down department in the team that needs to be strengthened.

Also, goal scorers Austin Ogunye and Ebenezer Odeyemi said they were excited to win the tournament, saying that the competition provided them the opportunity to work harder.

They commended the Bayelsa State government for hosting the showpiece attributing the victory to hard work and dedication.
