The former Hambick Football Club defender, who models his game after Chelsea legend John Terry and Spanish icon Sergio Ramos, played a pivotal role in Ajax Sporting Club’s title-winning campaign.
Widely regarded as the competition’s best defender, Bello delivered a series of decisive goal-line clearances and commanding displays at the heart of defence.
Speaking to Sports247Naija, Bello reflected on his performance and the team’s success.
“I feel incredibly proud of the consistency I maintained throughout the Marlians Cup. While those goal-line saves felt great in the moment, I mostly see them as me just doing my job to keep us in the game. I stayed focused on my positioning, and I’m glad I could come through for the team when the pressure was highest.”
He acknowledged the intensity of the tournament and praised his teammates for their collective effort.
“It was an intense competition, and I’m happy with how I stepped up. Those saves were a total adrenaline rush, but they wouldn’t have mattered if the rest of the guys weren’t fighting just as hard in front of me. I’m just happy I could play my part in our defensive effort and help secure the results we needed.”
Bello also highlighted the mental demands of the competition.
“I’m satisfied with my performance, especially with my reaction time on those goal-line clearances. I think the Marlians Cup really tested my mental toughness.
I stayed locked in for the full 90 minutes, and being able to make those crucial interventions gave me a lot of confidence moving forward.”
With this commanding display, Bello Ibrahim Abiodun has further cemented his growing reputation as one of the promising defensive talents in grassroots football.
