Being The Communiqué Of The Nigeria Olympic Committee Annual General Virtual Meeting Held On Thursday December 17, 2020

The communique of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Annual General Meeting held on Thursday, December 17, 2020, via the online videoconferencing platform, zoom because of the covid 19 pandemic which requires special attention and social distancing as directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The AGM was chaired by the President, Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engineer Habu Ahmed Gumel. Present also were the Hon Minister of Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Gabriel Aduda, the Executive Committee, International federation; ANOCA President representative, Mr Jonathan Dyagas, all members of the Executive Board, our esteemed Patrons, Sponsors, members of the various NOC commissions and Observers.

2. The NOC congratulates the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR who is our Grand Patron as he celebrates his birthday and as well commended him for his unflinching support to NOC and sports generally in Nigeria.

3. The NOC acknowledged the collaborative support and leadership role of our dear Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare. Mr. Dare has proved to be a great friend of the Olympic movement.

4. The NOC expressed its sincere appreciation to the Patrons of NOC for their kind support and total commitment to the upliftment of the Olympic movement in Nigeria.

5. The NOC is happy that the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, with the support of the Hon. Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare, has been collaborating effectively with the Nigeria Olympic Committee, to ensure that all loose ends are tied together, in preparing our delegation for the Tokyo Olympic Games.  

Although we have qualified athletes in some key sports, we strive to pick up qualification places in Athletics Relays, Badminton, Weightlifting and more in Wrestling as soon as the qualification window is reopened.  

6. The AGM unanimously approved the NOC President Activities Report for the year 2019. Also, the AGM approved the finance and audit reports for the year under review. While the board was commended for financial transparency, the current auditor’s contract was further renewed for another year.

7. The motion for the proposed list of nominated board of trustees was adopted. Therefore, the following icons were nominated. Alhaja Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, Jackson Bidei, Ambassador Haruna Garba, Mu’azu Suleyman, Hon. Lumumba Adeh, Obi Asika, and Dr. Lanre Glover. 

8. The AGM recognized and approved three new federations to operate under the leadership of the NOC. They are; 

     – Nigeria Teqball Federation

     – Bobsled & Skeleton Federation of Nigeria

     – Nigeria Curling Federation

9. The NOC commiserate with the families of our members and relatives who passed away to the great beyond in the year under review. May God grant their souls eternal rest.

The NOC thanked the media for their support over time and urge them to always see NOC as their partner in progress.

Lastly, the NOC appreciate all the delegates and wish them Merry Christmas and Happy 2021 Olympic Year in advance.
