Former middle distance runner Dr. Samuel Oredipe Kolawole has emerged as Bayelsa State Athletics Chairman, he takes over from Mr. Godwin Oghogho, whose has served out his tenure.
The new Chairman, a former middle distances runner, immediate past Vice-Chairman of the athletics association in the State and current author and board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

In a letter of appointment endorsed by the Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Mr. Andrew Aye stated that the elevation of Dr. Oredipe, to the position of Chairman followed his contributions towards the development of athletics in the state in the past five years.
Mr. Aye, urged the new Athletics Association Chairman to continue to work with key stakeholders of the game in the state to achieve more progress.
Dr. Oredipe, a seasoned broadcaster and currently the Director-General, Bayelsa State Government New Media is also the founder of SamKay Athletics Club of Yenagoa.
His club has over the years discovered and nurtured young Bayelsa athletes in track and field who had represented the state at national and international levels.
