Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa forward, Vera Samuel is relishing her personal efforts that have helped the team get three straight victories at the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU)-B CAF Champions League qualifiers in Yamassoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.
Sports247 reports that Coach Hakeem Busari Ishola’s side kept their 100% status going on Saturday at Stade du Lycee Scientifique with a heroic 4-1 spanking of Sam Nelly of Benin Republic, whose lone goal was scored by a Nigerian lass named Kalu Favour in the 44th minute.
However, a brace by Seimeyeha Akekoromowei (14th, 59th) as well as one goal each from Shakirat Moshood (35th) and Alaba Olabiyi (55th) gave the Nigerian champions three points that sealed their spot atop the group table, with bragging rights into next week’s semi-finals.
Samuel, who emerged woman of the match in the Bayelsa State-owned club’s second group game, a 3-0 spanking of ASKO FC from Togo, admitted that cruising into the last four in their second appearance at this competition is a remarkable achievement for her side.
“It makes me feel happy. Coming to this competition for the second time and being awarded woman of the match in our second game is also an opportunity for me. This is a great achievement for me and my teammates.
“We now hope to give a better performance to help the team achieve our aim. Winning the cup is what we want, and that’s our expectation. We know what we want, and we’re following the instructions of our coaches,” Samuel disclosed.
