Bayelsa Queens have once again proven why they are a dominant force in Nigerian women’s football, powering to the top of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six with a resounding 4-1 victory over Naija Ratels on Saturday in Ikenne, Ogun State.
With 10 points from five matches, the Prosperity Girls sealed the title ahead of Nasarawa Amazons and stamped their return to continental football.
In response to the historic feat, Bayelsa State’s Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Daniel Igali, released a heartfelt message congratulating the team and praising their outstanding performance.
“I want to praise the players for their exceptional skills, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament,” Igali said. “The performances reflect the hard work and dedication of the athletes, coaching staff, management, and everyone involved.”
He emphasized that the victory is more than a title—it is a declaration of intent ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, where Bayelsa Queens will once again represent Nigeria.
“This win solidifies their position as a top side and prepares them to give Nigeria a stronger representation at the continental level,” Igali affirmed.
In a stirring dedication, the Commissioner offered the title to the state’s top leadership. “I want to dedicate this trophy to the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for always matching words with action. This remarkable victory is a testament to the support we’ve enjoyed from their leadership.”
Acknowledging Bayelsa Queens’ legacy as the Nigerian team with the highest-ever continental finish, Igali called on all stakeholders to see the victory as a launching pad.
“As we celebrate this victory, let us remember that this is the beginning. There is much work to be done,” he concluded. “This success serves as a powerful example of what can be accomplished with hard work, dedication, and passion.”
The journey continues—but for now, Bayelsa Queens reign supreme.
