Defending champions Bayelsa Queens will kick off their 2025/2026 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership campaign with a high-profile home clash against former champions Edo Queens on Wednesday, November 26, at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm local time.
Edo Queens, who ended last season trophy-less, head into the new campaign seeking a strong response and will be looking to cause an early upset against the reigning champions in what promises to be a fiercely contested opener.

The two sides share one of the league’s most intense rivalries, having consistently battled for supremacy since the inception of the NWFL Premiership.
Meetings between both clubs have often produced unpredictable outcomes, with each capable of defeating the other on any given day.
Bayelsa Queens, known for their resilience and dominance at home, will aim to begin their title defence on a strong note. The “Prosperity Girls” are targeting another top-flight finish and hope to retain their crown at the end of the season.
Edo Queens, however, remain confident heading into the star match of the week. The Benin-based side has enjoyed notable victories over Bayelsa Queens in recent years, including their memorable league-clinching win in Yenagoa during the 2023/2024 season.
Both teams also clashed recently at the maiden Governor Douye Diri Women’s Pre-Season Tournament, where Bayelsa Queens advanced to the final after a 4–2 penalty shootout win in the semifinals, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
This season marks the first time in four campaigns that both clubs will feature in the same group, adding more intensity to an already heated rivalry. Edo Queens, backed by management and supporters, insist they are unfazed by the challenge and are determined to “return fire for fire” in Yenagoa.
For the Moses Aduku-led Bayelsa side, the ambition remains clear: to win the league again and represent Nigeria on the continental stage.
The club’s management, technical crew, players, and fans are united in their quest to lift the NWFL Premiership title once more.
All eyes will be on Yenagoa on Wednesday as two of the league’s biggest forces go head-to-head in a blockbuster season opener.
