Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have been placed 12th in the latest FIBA Africa Power Rankings as preparations continue for the next window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
The rankings, released ahead of the third qualification window, reflect Nigeria’s current standing after a difficult opening phase of the campaign.
D’Tigers managed just one victory from their opening three qualification games, leaving the team with a 1-2 record and work to do in the remaining fixtures.
Despite the position, there is renewed optimism surrounding the national team following the appointment of former NBA head coach David Fizdale to lead the technical crew.
Fizdale’s arrival is expected to provide fresh direction and renewed confidence as Nigeria looks to revive its qualification hopes.
The next round of qualifiers is expected to play a decisive role in determining whether D’Tigers can climb the standings and remain in contention for a place at the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
With several experienced players expected to return alongside emerging talents, Nigeria will be hoping to produce improved performances and re-establish itself among Africa’s leading basketball nations.
