Newly drafted Nigerian basketball prospect Tobi Lawal has encouraged young athletes across the country to remain focused on their dreams after achieving his own ambition of reaching the NBA.
Lawal, who was selected 48th overall by the Dallas Mavericks, reflected on his remarkable journey from London to the United States, describing it as proof that hard work and faith can open extraordinary doors.
“Believe in your dreams because anything is possible if you’re willing to work for it,” Lawal said.
The Nigerian forward credited his success to determination, discipline and making the most of every opportunity that came his way throughout his basketball journey.
According to Lawal, having access to the right environment also played a significant role in his development.
“Faith, hard work and being in the right environment helped me become the player I am today,” he added.
Looking ahead to life in the NBA, Lawal revealed the qualities he intends to bring to his new team, stressing that he wants to make an impact through his energy, defensive ability and commitment to winning.
“I’ll bring energy, defensive versatility and a winning mentality every time I step on the court,” he stated.
Lawal also urged aspiring Nigerian athletes not to be discouraged by obstacles, insisting that dedication and self-belief can turn dreams into reality.
His selection continues the growing influence of Nigerian talent in the NBA, with several players of Nigerian heritage now making significant contributions across the league.
