Zambian forward Barbra Banda has expressed strong belief that the Copper Queens have the ability to challenge and even defeat Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Banda, one of Africa’s most prolific attackers, acknowledged Nigeria’s long-standing dominance in women’s football on the continent but insisted that the Zambian team is ready to rise to the challenge.

“Nigeria has become the standard for teams in Africa,” Banda said. “They are a very strong side with great players.”
The Super Falcons have historically been the most successful women’s national team in Africa, and Banda admitted that facing them always requires extra preparation and discipline.
“When you play Nigeria, you know you are facing one of the best teams in Africa,” she noted.
However, the Zambian star remains confident that the Copper Queens possess the quality and determination to compete at the highest level.
“We believe we have what it takes to not only come out of our group but also beat the Super Falcons,” she stated.
Banda emphasized that the team is aware of the work required to achieve such ambitions.
“There is still a lot of work to do, and we are preparing seriously,” she added.
The forward also stressed the importance of teamwork and tactical discipline when facing elite opponents.
“Matches like these are decided by small details and how well you execute your game plan,” she explained.
Despite her confidence, Banda maintained respect for Nigeria’s pedigree in African football.
“The Super Falcons are a great side and always difficult to play against,” she said.
With WAFCON approaching, Banda’s comments underline Zambia’s growing confidence as they aim to challenge Africa’s traditional powerhouse on the continental stage.
