The roar of the crowd may have faded since FC Bethel Sporting lifted the 1xCup trophy in 2024, but Head Coach Nathaniel Olagunju is already writing the next chapter — and this time, it’s about making history.
In a chat with Sports247, Nathaniel Olagunju said that they ready to make history and well prepare for the occassion.

“We’re happy the program is coming again this year,” said the highly respected tactician.
“And we’ve prepared ourselves to make history.
In the history of this tournament, no team has ever won it back-to-back — but we’re ready to be the first.”
The stakes are even higher this year as the grassroots spectacle returns with a bigger format and a prize pool of ₦20 million.
But for Coach Olagunju and his squad, it’s not just about the money — it’s about legacy.
Last year, FC Bethel Sporting stunned the nation with their electric run to the title, defeating Gunners Link FC in a memorable final at MJ Arena. The squad boasted stars like Okechukwu Nnana (top scorer) and Caleb Okereke (MVP), and was steered masterfully by Olagunju — who deservedly walked away with the Best Coach award.
But as the 2025 edition approaches, Bethel Sporting faces a new challenge: rebuilding.
“Most of the players that won the cup for us last year are now attracting major transfer interest because of their performance. We’ll be playing with some fresh legs, but that’s the beauty of this platform — it gives young talents a shot to shine.”
And it’s not just Bethel Sporting that’s gearing up.
“The interest this year is massive,” Olagunju continued. “Since we won, clubs from all over have been calling me, asking how to register. I’ve forwarded the link to many — I can tell you over 300 clubs are lining up to be part of this. Even clubs outside Lagos are trying to enter. You have to give it to 1xBet — what they’ve created is phenomenal.”
The excitement is real. The ambition is clear. And for FC Bethel Sporting, it’s simple:
“This year, everyone should watch out,” Olagunju declared. “We’re not just defending the title — we’re rewriting the history books.”
