Azubuike, who was the under-23 team’s captain in 2015, before John Mikel Obi step in and took over for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, caught the eye of Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr with his top-notch efforts during the away and home fixture against Libya.

With the former Bayelsa United of Yenagoa battler showing immense leadership and team bonding skills, as Nigeria took a step forward into the next stage of the qualifiers, Rohr has now confirmed his love for him.

Rohr disclosed: “Azubuike would have been with us but we have to consider the request of the coach of the U23s, who wanted him as well.

“He will get his chance with us when we regroup for our next game if he maintain his form for his Turkish side.”
