Azubuike Denies Misgivings Over U-23 Team Call-up

Caykur Rizespor of Turkey midfielder, Azubuike Okechukwu has denied speculation in some sectors of Nigerian football that he is not happy with his invitation to the under-23 team, as he would have preferred playing for the Super Eagles instead.
Although the battling player, who is on loan at Rizespor from Pyramids FC of Egypt, admitted playing for the senior national team is his main target, he has nothing against trying out again with the Olympic Eagles.
With that in mind, sports247.ng reports that Azubuike is set to link up with Imama Amapakabo’s squad in Tunisia on Monday, as they prepare to battle Libya in the first leg of their 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers on Wednesday.
Though he was the initial captain of the last set of U23s, which went on to win bronze at Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, Azubuike is still within age (born April 19,1997) and believe he can muster experience gained the last time out to help Nigeria retain the African title and qualify for Torkyo 2020.
He stressed that he is never constrained to accepting any invitation from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as he always wants to give his best to the country.
Azubuike added: “I’m happy to be back playing for the country again, it shows that I’m working hard. For me it’s always a great privilege to serve my fatherland.”
