As the countdown to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 continues, Nigeria’s promising young defender Azeezat Oduntan has expressed total confidence in the Flamingos’ readiness to make history at the global tournament.
Speaking shortly before the team’s departure for Morocco, the composed full-back emphasized that the squad’s morale is sky-high and their focus unshaken. Oduntan stated that the players have trained intensely under coach Bankole Olowookere, blending tactical discipline with spiritual faith as they aim to go beyond their impressive semi-final finish at the last edition in India.

“We’re confident and calm because we know God is in control of our journey,” Oduntan said. “Every training session has made us stronger. We believe in our coach’s plan, and we’re ready to give everything on the pitch.”
The Flamingos will kick off their campaign against Canada on October 19, before facing Brazil and Morocco in what is considered one of the tournament’s most competitive groups. Oduntan said the players are not intimidated by their opponents’ pedigree, insisting that unity and determination will be Nigeria’s greatest weapons.
“No team scares us,” she continued. “We respect every opponent, but we’ll fight for every ball. Our strength is in our teamwork, our discipline, and our belief that we’re representing millions of Nigerians back home.”
The defender, known for her composure and ball-winning ability, revealed she’s been working hard on her defensive positioning and communication with the backline to ensure no attacker gets past easily.
“I’ve learned a lot during camp,” she added. “The coach keeps pushing us to improve every day. We’ll defend as a unit and attack with purpose. We just want to make our country proud.”
The Flamingos are chasing Nigeria’s first-ever U-17 Women’s World Cup title, and with Oduntan’s quiet confidence echoing through the squad, optimism remains high that history could be made in Morocco.
