AYG: Nwankwo Beats South Africa’s Oluchi to Claim 100m Title

Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo produced a blistering performance to win the girls’ 100 metres at the African Youth Games (AYG) in Luanda, Angola, edging South Africa’s Oluchi Ndubueze to clinch the gold medal.

The Nigerian sprinter powered across the finish line in 11.77 seconds to lead the field, with Oluchi settling for silver, while Morocco’s Maria Saadi completed the podium in third place.

Nwankwo’s victory marked a strong start for Team Nigeria at the Games, which run from December 10 to 20 and also serve as a qualifying event for the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.

Angola is hosting the African Youth Games for the first time, welcoming athletes aged 14 to 17 from across the continent.

The gold medal set the tone for an impressive outing in athletics, as the country continues its push for medals in Luanda.
