FC Nantes of France defender, Chidozie Collins Awaziem is happy with his contribution towards the Super Eagles’ surge into the 2026 World Cup play-off final in Rabat, Morocco, but admitted that the players will have to give their very best to win it on Sunday.
Sports247 reports that the widely travelled centre back, who played in quick succession for Colorado Rapids and FC Concinnatti of USA between 2024 and 2025, then rejoined Nantes this summer, described Nigeria’s 4-1 spanking of Gabon on Thursday as an amazing performance.

The Cupid-faced defender, who will be 29 on January 1st, added, “It was really an amazing performance by the team, and I’m really excited that I played my part in the game. I’m happy for the win and for how it all went.
“Now, we’ll just focus on the next game this Sunday. We’ve taken the first step, and we won the game. Now we know what’s at stake, and it’s another step closer to the World Cup.”
The soft-spoken star, who earlier previously played for FC Porto and Boavista of Portugal, Rizespor and Alayanspor of Turkey, as well as Leganes of Spain and Hajduk Split of Croatia, disclosed that all attention in the Super Eagles’ camp is now on Sunday’s decisive final, in which he hopes to get his 34th cap.
“We’ll just keep the same spirit and the same energy we used in the first match; then try to make sure we get victory.
“Winning on Sunday will take us just one step away from the World Cup, and we want to achieve that dream,” said Awaziem, who has a goal in 33 appearances for Nigeria.
He concluded with an assurance that anyone selected in the starting roster and the substitutes are all up to the task of getting the desired win that will take Nigeria into the intercontinental play-offs scheduled for March 2026 in Mexico.
“We trust everyone in this team, and the coach also trusts all our abilities. We just have to give it our all, so that the team can come out with victory.
“That’s the most important thing. We just have to do our best for the team to win on Sunday,” Awaziem stressed.
