Atiku Praises Amputee Eagles For Single Win

Former vice-president, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has praised the country’s physically challenged soccer team, Special Eagles for beating El Salvador at the 2018 Amputee Football World Cup.

Although the victory was not enough to see the Eagles move into the next round of the global competition in Mexico, sports247.ng can report that Atiku was thrilled to see the squad pick their first ever win inn the competition’s history.

Atiku, who was one of the major donors that boosted the Amputee Eagles’ trip to Mexico, said he was excited to see the team make their mark on Wednesday, by beating El Salvador 1-0 in their last group tie.

The Special Eagles lost their first two matches in the group; 6-0 to Brazil and 3-0 to 2014 champions Russia in their second game.

Despite Wednesday’s win, Nigeria could not progress to the knockout rounds after finishing third in the group, but Atiku took to social media to reveal his thoughts and congratulated the team.

Atiku wrote: “I am super excited that Nigeria’s Special Eagles, against all odds, recorded their first victory in their maiden World Cup outing in Mexico.

“It is my hope that with greater support, they can only get better and soar like the Eagles they are.”
