Lagos-based renowned athletics referee and announcer, Samuel Akinyemi Afolarin has stated appreciation over his nomination for a special plaque of merit at this year’s Sportsville Awards on March 28th, Sports247 reports.
Afolarin, whose voice is always behind the microphone in events of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and schools competitions, expressed appreciation to the award organisers for nominating him in the Special Recognition Category.
The respected school teacher described his nomination as humbling and rewarding, while also adding that the recognition represents a validation of his decades in the development and administration of athletics in Nigeria.
“It is with the utmost humility and surprise that I acknowledge my nomination for this prestigious Special Recognition Award,” he stated.
Afolarin, who has spent over four decades contributing to athletics as a referee and announcer, disclosed that his involvement in track and field has always been driven by a genuine desire to contribute to its growth.
“My involvement and contribution to the organisation and administration of sports, especially athletics, across Lagos State in particular and Nigeria in general, is borne out of my sincere and genuine desire to develop the sport and be among the best technical officials.
“Little did I know that such dedication will pay off one day through this enviable award. I am humbled by this unique recognition and validation of my modest contribution to the game of athletics. Thank you, Sportsville for finding me worthy of this honour.”
Sports347 further gathered that Afolarin will be honoured along with other great personalities when the 6th edition of Sportsville Awards takes place at Lagos Country Club, Ikeja on March 28th.
