Aso Sky Queens Emerge As Surprise Package At Nigerian Women’s Basketball League Final 8 Deciders

Aso Sky Queens of Abuja have emerged as the major surprise package at the ongoing Final 8 play-offs for the Nigerian Women’s Premier Basketball League, as the Savannah Conference outfit picked stunning victories in their first two matches.

Sports247 reports that the Abuja-based side’s performances in Group A of the ongoing competition in the indoor games’ hall of the National Institute of Sports (NIS) ensured they became one of the early semi-finalists, thereby making their next game a mere formality.

Dramatically, Aso SkyQueens booked their semi-final ticket alongside group favourites, Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM), which made their last first-round fixture on Thursday only decisive from the point that it determined the top-placed side for the next stage.

It marks a continuation of astonishing feats by Aso Sky Queens, who had also earlier emerged as revelations from the Savannah Conference, when they placed second behind Nigeria Customs after two phases and secured their passage to the Final 8.

They have now continued their Cinderella run with two stunning victories in Lagos, the second of which helped them into the last four with a blowout 53-30 win over Bayelsa Blue Whales, following their opening equally astonishing 55-36 victory over Titans.

Asp Sky Queens will quickly turn their focus on their semi-final opponents once they settle scores with two-time winners, MFM Girls, who defeated Bayelsa Blue Whales 69-35 in their first game played on Tuesday, then wrapped up a routine win over Titans.

The Abuja side’s next opponents could be nine-time record winners, First Bank Elephant Girls, who followed up their opening day 68-57 win against Victoria Queens with a 54-39 spanking of Air Warriors in their second fixture on Wednesday.

MFM would then face off with Nigeria Customs, who started their Final 8 campaign with a 55-41 win over Air Warriors before their blowout 61-26 mauling of debuting Victoria Queens to move into the final four scheduled to be held on Friday.
