Sports247 reports that the Nigerian-born 20-year-old midfielder, who played her first match on Saturday after joining the Women’s Super League II (WSL2) outfit last week, disclosed that she feels great in her new environment.
Although her years at Chelsea were spent mostly on loan at Birmingham City and Southampton, the tall lass with a Polish mother and Nigerian father is banking on experience she gained while playing for The Blues to propel her higher.
The England youth international, who was born in Poland but moved to Queensland as a kid, is now targeting regular playing time to keep Newcastle on top the WSL2 table and help them achieve promotion at the end of this season.
“I’m so excited. The opportunity to represent this club is amazing, and I just can’t wait to get started. I’m going to play against some of the best teams and great players. So, I’m looking forward to doing that.
“I played against Newcastle during my time at Chelsea, and I noticed what their ambitions are like at the club. So, I feel excited to be here, and I want to do my part to keep them up where they are,” Akpan pledged.
