The exploits of Nigerian table tennis icons, Aruna Quadri and Waheed Ekun have been cited as examples of achievers who inspire the emergence of talents in the sport from the nooks and crannies of Oyo State, Sports247 reports.
This verdict was served by the chairman of Oyo State Table Tennis Association, Adesoji Tayo during an epoch-making event in which he officially unveiled and handed over a multi‑million naira specialised hall for the sport.
While speaking during the well-attended commissioning ceremony at Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, the donor stated delight with the project, which he believes will serve a positive purpose of boosting enhanced discovery of table tennis players in the state.
He went on to reveal some of the equipment on offer at the complex, which he declared has a guarantee of sustenance for at least a decade, during which time it would serve the purpose of aiding budding talents to breakthrough, achieve great results and ascend to higher ground.
Tayo, who also serves as the president of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), further asserted that the new facility will boost the emergence of a new generation of ping pong players and added: “It is not about infrastructure to me, but about the legacy one is leaving behind.
“This hall will serve as a place where players can train, showcase their talent, and aim for the podium. We have four world‑class tables and flooring that will remain in top condition for at least ten years. I believe another Aruna Quadri or Waheed Ekun will be discovered here.”
