Arsenal Break Record to Sign Nigerian-Irish Teen Victor Ozhianvuna from Shamrock Rovers

Arsenal have agreed a record-breaking deal to sign 16-year-old Nigerian-Irish midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna from Shamrock Rovers, in what is being described as one of the biggest transfers in the history of the League of Ireland.

The Gunners will pay an initial fee of around €2 million, with add-ons that could push the figure higher, smashing the previous record set by Mason Melia’s move to Tottenham earlier this summer.

Ozhianvuna, who has Nigerian heritage through his father from Edo State and a Russian mother, is regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in Irish football.

Born and raised in Tallaght, he has already made 15 senior appearances for Shamrock Rovers despite his age and marked his full debut with a stunning volley in the FAI Cup, which immediately caught the eye of scouts across Europe.

Although the deal is complete, FIFA and UK transfer regulations prevent him from joining Arsenal immediately. Instead, Ozhianvuna will remain at Shamrock Rovers until he turns 18 in January 2027, continuing his development in the League of Ireland while keeping close ties with Arsenal’s youth setup.

Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley has spoken glowingly about the teenager, describing him as a versatile midfielder who can play anywhere across the pitch and one who always wants the ball regardless of the situation.

His fearless approach, technical quality, and maturity have already made him a key part of Rovers’ squad despite his youth, and his rapid rise has generated excitement in both Ireland and abroad.

For Arsenal, the signing continues a clear strategy of investing heavily in top young talents with long-term potential.

With his mix of physicality, creativity, and work rate, Ozhianvuna is seen as a player who could eventually grow into a central figure at the Emirates.

The move represents a major statement for Irish and Nigerian football as well, highlighting the growing reputation of the League of Ireland as a breeding ground for top European clubs.
