Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola will on Saturday formally receive the trophy for the maiden Western Nigeria Governors’ Cup in the state capital, Osogbo, sports247.ng reports.
This was revealed by the secretary of Western Nigeria Football Forum (WNFF), Otunba Akin Akinbobola, who said the trophy presentation will be done during this year’s Osun State Sports Awards ceremony.
Akinbobola said the competition is part of the forum’s efforts art riving the lost glory of the south-west in leadership positions, results, efforts and promotion of Nigeria football.
He reasoned that the competition will also help in the discovery of new young talents for the future of Nigerian football, while also keeping the youth away from social vices and juvenile activities that may harm them.
Akinbobola stated: “The decision to come up with this idea is to also help keep our youths busy, foster integration, promote unity and create a vibrant football economy in the western region of Nigeria.”
