Sports247 reports that Abdullahi was highly excited at the start of the 2026 Chief of Defence Staff Inter-Service Archery Championship, which he said has been boosted by outstanding support and commitment from the armed forces.

While also praising the country’s military echelon for showing keen interest in the event and providing strong followership for the sport, Abdullahi promised that the federation will continue sustaining the competition.

He added that they are keen on strengthening their partnership with the Chief of Defence Staff and Nigerian Armed Forces, even as he also gave morale boosting words to all the participating teams and wished them a successful championship.

The 2025 edition of the championship was won by the Nigerian Army, who are hoping to retain their top spot at this year’s contest, which began on Wednesday at Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex, Guards Brigade Headquarters, Asokoro, Abuja.

The competition, which also features teams from the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force, will end on Friday, following which winners in various categories will be selected to represent the Armed Forces at the national championship.

While pointing out that the National Open Archery Championship will take place from April 20th to 26th, Abdullahi added: “I want to commend the Armed Forces for their commitment in the sports of archery.

“I believe that this championship will produce worthy champions who will represent the Armed Forces in the forthcoming National Open Archery Championship and I look forward to receiving them at the event.

“It’s equally important that I thank the Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede for approving the hosting of this championship which will go a long way in helping the officers perfect their knowledge of the sports.”
