Anything Is Possible’ Tanzania Boss Gamondi Eyes Super Eagles Test as AFCON Campaign Begins Dec 23

Head coach of the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, Miguel Gamondi, has declared that his team will be fully prepared to compete at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, insisting that his players are ready for the challenge despite being drawn into a difficult group.

Tanzania will begin their AFCON campaign against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on December 23, a fixture Gamondi admits will be a major test but one his side is embracing with belief rather than fear.

“AFCON is a big opportunity for Tanzania. It is time for Africa to see what this team truly represents,” Gamondi said.

The coach acknowledged the strength of Nigeria, one of Africa’s traditional powerhouses, but stressed that his team is focused on competing, not merely participating.

“We respect Nigeria and the other teams in our group, but football is unpredictable. Anything is possible when you prepare well,” he added.

Tanzania are grouped alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda in Group C, a section widely regarded as one of the toughest at the tournament. Gamondi said the challenge has only strengthened his players’ resolve.

“Being in a tough group means you must be mentally strong. We are working hard tactically and psychologically to be ready,” he explained.

The Tanzanian coach revealed that preparations have focused on discipline, organization, and belief — qualities he believes are essential when facing top-ranked opponents like Nigeria in an opening match.

“The first game is very important. Starting well against Nigeria will give us confidence for the rest of the tournament,” Gamondi noted.

He also emphasized the importance of national pride, urging his players to understand what it means to represent Tanzania on Africa’s biggest football stage.

“This is a moment for our country. The players know they are carrying the hopes of many people,” he said.

Despite being labelled underdogs, Gamondi believes AFCON remains a platform where teams can surprise.

“AFCON has always shown that there are no small teams. If you believe and fight, you can compete with anyone,” he concluded.

As Tanzania count down to their December 23 showdown with Nigeria, Gamondi’s message is clear: the Taifa Stars are coming to AFCON ready to compete.
