Sports247 gathered that Joshua’s long-term driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode appeared on Wednesday for the second time at a court in Sagamu, Ogun State, where the accident occurred near Makun.
The charges against Kayode include causing death by dangerous driving, causing body harm with reckless driving, causing loss of property with negligent driving, driving without due care and driving without a valid licence.
As it was in his first appearance at Sagamu Magistrates Court last month, the 46-year-old driver again did not enter a plea and the case was stalled after prosecutors asked for time to gather evidence.
Kayode, who did not speak during the hearing, has been at home recuperating from injuries he and Joshua suffered during the accident, following which the driver was released from custody after being granted bail.
A report by British tabloid, The Sun, revealed further that the father-of-three, who first appeared in court on January 20, had previously been sacked by a British businessman after he drove his car into a ditch.
It was revealed that the incident, which reportedly occurred in October 2024, happened when ‘Kayode became distracted while driving his boss in his black Infinity QX56 for a work trip.’
The reported added: “He drove over a gutter on the side of the road when it was totally avoidable. There was no reason that was obvious to cause the accident.
“Nobody was hurt, but the car had a nasty dent and scratch at the front of it, and two tyres were punctured. He was sacked for being absent-minded.”
