‘The Greek Freak,’ who has a Nigerian father, had been expected to lead nine other international stars in Team World’s squad that will be coached by Darko Rajaković for the NBA’s star-studded exhibition games.
Before confirmation of his injury, Antetokounmpo had been listed alongside Deni Avdija (Portland Trail Blazers), Luka Dončić (Los Angeles Lakers), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Nikola Jokić (Denver Nuggets).
Others are Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets), Pascal Siakam (Indiana Pacers), Alperen Şengün (Houston Rockets), Karl-Anthony Towns (New York Knicks) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs).
Antetokounmpo had initially been expected to captain the international players in two round robin games for the 2026 NBA All-Star weekend, which will feature a new format of three teams clashing in a mini-tournament.
Two of the teams consist of players from the United States and a third comprises stars from the rest of the world, with all the games to be played at Los Angeles Clippers’ Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, USA on Sunday.
A post on X by NBA Communications @NBAPR stated, “The team rosters are set for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. USA Stars, USA Stripes and Team World will compete in a round-robin mini-tournament with four 12-minute games on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 5 PM ET.”
