Amputee Football National Team Awaits NAFF’s Next Directive On World Cup Preparation Camp

Players and coaches of Nigeria’s amputee football national team, Special Eagles are eagerly awaiting the next directive from their governing body on when phase two of their preparations for this year’s global championship will begin.

Sports247 reports that, in spite of a spirited atmosphere, great expectations and huge splash of publicity that their commencement of camping in Abuja generated last month, everything has been doused like cold water on fire.

This is sequel to the sudden decision by top echelon officials of Nigerian Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) to suddenly call off the team’s camping sequence, without any definite date fixed for their resumption.

It means what had all along been expected to be an extensive period of camping, leading up to the competition in November, hit a pause and nothing has been said about a possible resumption date for the team.

However, a credible source close to the NAFF played down any controversy or ill-blood regarding the Special Eagles’ camp and hinted in a chat with Sports247 that the squad will resume their preparations soon.

He acknowledged that the players were decamped after two weeks, but inferred that it was because what they all came for at that point was a screening process, which eventually came to an end as planned.

Although the source did not give any date for the camp’s resumption, he expressed hope that it will soon happen, so that the coaches and players can resume planning towards the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup scheduled for Mexico in November.

The source stated, “We just ended a two week camp for screening the players for the World Cup. We hope to start the main camp later.

“The date (of our resumption) is yet to be fixed. (We are) waiting to hear from the president. The competition will take place from 13 – 22 November, 2026 in Mexico.”
