Amawbia Town Embarks On 5-Kilometre Physical Fitness Walk

It was a historic event as the people and inhabitants of Amawbia town on Thursday, 24th of December 2020, embarked on an endurance and fitness walk as part of efforts to promote healthy living, maintenance of good health and conviviality within the community.

The endurance trek and fitness walk covering a distance of about 5 kilometres saw the youths, children and the aged converge at the Central Primary School Amawbia as early as 6 am on the eve of Christmas for a historic ‘Fitness Walk’ and exercise which is the first of its kind in the community.

The colourful event which was initiated and bankrolled by one of its illustrious sons and the member representing Awka South Constituency 2 at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Chukwuma Okoye (Nwanayoeze 1 of Amawbia), saw the entire Amawbia community turn out en mass to join the ‘Fitness Walk’ which commenced at the Central Primary School and terminated at the Amawbia Town Hall with entertainment and refreshment to the participants to clock off the event.

Speaking to the press, the member representing Awka South Constituency 2, Hon. Chief Chukwuma Okoye stated that apart from the OBIZI UNITY FOOTBALL CUP he is bankrolling, the ‘Fitness Walk’ is also part of his grassroots programmes. Hon. Chief Okoye said: “This fitness walk became necessary owing to the fact that Walking is a major part of an exercise to ensure that people are physically fit and mentally alert. The ‘Fitness Walk’ will avail the people the opportunity to ascertain the level, capacity and state of their health which will enable them to eat right, exercise well and work towards maintaining healthy living”, Okoye stated.

The lawmaker and legislator also said that Amawbia Community is united and currently enjoying palpable peace and harmony. “Amawbia is one and united, the term ‘Ugbo-Ogiliga’ means that we are one happy family, today we have top government functionaries here as well as our traditional ruler and custodian of our culture joining this colourful programme, I will ensure that the ‘Fitness Walk’ will now be an annual event to promote peace and harmonious relationship in my town and to preach on the need for physical fitness and healthy living”, Chief Okoye enthused.

Some of the dignitaries who participated in the ‘Fitness Walk’, where the traditional ruler of Amawbia town, H.R.H Igwe Chinyelu Nwora-Molokwu; the President-General of the town, Mr Ebele Nwufo; Head of Service, Barrister Harold Uduh; Principal Secretary to the State Government, Chief Willie Nwokoye amongst others.
