Amaju Pinnick: “We’ve Had Sleepless Nights Preparing the Super Eagles for Battle”

Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has revealed that the National Sports Commission (NSC) has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the Super Eagles are fully prepared for the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s crucial matches against Lesotho and Benin Republic, Pinnick admitted that while the current situation in Group C is far from ideal, he remains confident that the Super Eagles can still pull off a dramatic turnaround.

“We’ve had sleepless nights helping the Super Eagles prepare for these decisive fixtures,” Pinnick disclosed. “No magic can be done overnight, but what matters is that the team remains united and focused on the goal ahead.”

The former NFF boss explained that he has maintained close contact with the NSC and technical officials, providing guidance and moral support to the team as they push for qualification to the World Cup in USA, Mexico, and Canada.

“We are in constant alignment,” he said. “There’s been complete collaboration between the NSC, coaching crew, and players. Everyone understands what’s at stake.”

Pinnick also emphasized that Nigerians should not lose faith in the team, citing the nation’s history of defying odds in crucial moments.

“Nigeria thrives when hope seems lost,” he continued. “This is not the first time we’ve been in this kind of position. We’ve always managed to surprise the world when it matters most.”

He concluded by urging fans to stay supportive and patient as the Super Eagles chase maximum points in their remaining qualifiers.

“The players need the fans’ belief,” Pinnick said. “Let’s back them fully — qualification is still possible.”
