Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has made a return to continental football administration following his appointment as Special Adviser to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
The announcement was made on Friday during a live press conference streamed on YouTube, where Dr. Motsepe confirmed that Pinnick will now attend all CAF meetings in his new advisory role.

“I did not know Amaju is so loved in CAF,” Motsepe remarked, light-heartedly acknowledging the strong support Pinnick still commands within African football circles.
The appointment marks a significant return to the CAF leadership structure for Pinnick, who was formerly CAF’s First Vice President under the presidency of Ahmad Ahmad.
His influence had waned in recent years, especially after narrowly losing his seat on the FIFA Council by a single vote.
It is widely recalled that Pinnick played a pivotal role in the build-up to Motsepe’s election as CAF President in 2021, rallying support across the continent. His new role is seen as a recognition of his longstanding contributions to African football administration.
“This appointment is a clear appreciation of Amaju’s contributions to the game,” Dr. Motsepe said during the briefing.
Pinnick’s return is expected to further strengthen CAF’s administrative structure, especially as the body prepares for major tournaments and reforms in the coming years.
