Alozie Sets Her Eyes on Glory as WAFCON Kicks Off with Morocco Held to Opening Draw

Nigerian international and Houston Dash standout Michelle Alozie is set to take center stage today as the Super Falcons begin their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign against Tunisia.

The Group B clash will kick off at 5:00 PM local time (4:00 PM GMT / 5:00 PM WAT) at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

Alozie, 28, who plays both in attack and defense, has become a core figure in Nigeria’s national team since 2021.

With World Cup and Olympic experience behind her, she now turns her focus to winning a first continental title.

Speaking ahead of the opening match, Alozie said:

“Every time I wear the green jersey, it’s a moment of pride. We know what’s at stake, and we’re here to fight for the title. This team is hungry, united, and ready to compete.”

Nigeria, a nine-time WAFCON champion, is aiming to reclaim its dominance on the African stage after falling short in recent editions.

Group B also includes Botswana and Algeria, setting up a competitive path to the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, hosts Morocco were held to a surprising 2–2 draw in their tournament opener on Saturday night, underlining the unpredictable nature of this year’s competition.

As WAFCON 2025 heats up, all eyes are now on Alozie and the Super Falcons as they kick off their pursuit of a historic 10th title.
