Alloy Agu Adds His Voice To ‘No Contract Issue’ Affecting Nigeria’s National Team Coaches

Former Super Eagles’ first choice goalkeeper and ex-trainer, Alloy Agu has added his voice to the trending debate over lack of contracts affecting Nigerian coaches in the country’s national teams, and declared that it is a misnomer that must stop.

Sports247 reports that the issue of indigenous coaches not issued with proper contracts when they take up national team appointments handed them by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) surfaced with the death of Eagles’ former captain and head coach, Christian Chukwu, who was reportedly being owed heavily up till the time of his demise.

Agu has now taken up the issue from a general point of view, and stated emphatically that it is an ugly trend that must not continue, since Nigeria is part of the global football comity in which written contracts are issued at the commencement of any appointment.

The keeper-turned-pastor added, “This is the normal thing to do. That is the way it is done all over the whole world. When you come into a club or a new job, there must be a letter of appointment and a contract.

“It has to be read and understood before you start with the job. That is the normal thing to do. So, it is not a new thing at all, and that is the way it should be.”

The articulate former shot-stopper, who made top marks at the highest level playing in Belgium during his heyday, added that the only way Nigeria can be ranked among well-respected football playing nations worldwide is when everything that applies to the game in developed countries is seen to be done in all aspects here as well.

“That is the way it’s supposed to be. Nigeria is also part of the world and part of the game. We are fully involved in the round leather stuff. So, everything that is applicable to the round leather should be applicable to Nigeria and to every other country.

“So, we should not be lagging behind in any kind of way. We are all playing the round leather football. So, everything that is applicable to it should be applicable to Nigeria also,” Agu reiterated.
