Fulham of England star, Alex Iwobi has been recognised for his efforts in charity at home and abroad, as a humanitarian group has named him among esteemed people of African origin who are contributing to social development.
Sports247 gathered that Iwobi is named alongside Arsenal’s Nigerian-born dazzler, Eberechi Eze on the latest roll call of benefactors added to ‘Football Black List,’ in recognition of their off-field contributions to the game.
The yearly roll call, which began in 2008, recognises efforts and achievements of black figures working across football, with Iwobi included for his annual free shopping spree to less privileged people among other efforts.
A citation for the 29-year-old Super Eagles star also noted that he ‘has his own project which supports underserved communities through football tournaments, mentorship programmes and initiatives.’
On his part, 27-year-old Eze, who previously played for Queeens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace, is ‘recognised for his foundation which is dedicated to empowering south London’s youth through education and sport.’
A report by BBC Sport adds, “Former Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure, ex-Premier League player Nathan Dyer and Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada also make the list.
“The list is selected from nominations by a panel of experts, including representatives from the Premier League, Football Association, EFL, League Managers Association, Professional Footballers’ Association, refereeing body PGMOL and anti-discrimination campaign group Kick It Out.”
