Akwa United 2-2 Abia Warriors: “Every Points Matters To Us Now,” Imama Charges

Sitting uncomfortable at the bottom end of the table and seeing his team come back twice to earn a point in Uyo, Imama Amapakabo has declared that ‘every point counts’ for Abia Warriors.

Warriors had gone down to an early goal from Naibe Akpesiri for Akwa United which Godwim Obaje cancelled in the 23rd minute. Warriors would not hold on in the first half as Wisdom Fernando scored Akwa United’s second but Michael Ibe ensured the points were shared in the 77th minute.

The point leaves Abia Warriors just above the relegation zone with a point and a better goal difference than the other sides in the battle of relegation.

Imama Amapakabo shared his thoughts on the game in the post match conference and he said: “At this point in time of the season, every point count.”

“We knew it was a tight game playing a well taught side on their beautiful pitch too, we knew it would be tough. I told my players a football game ends with a win, draw or loss, if you plan for a draw, you get a loss so let plan for a win and we eventually got a draw.”

He lamented on the early goal conceded in the 6th minute as well saying it is frustrating but praised his team for a fighting spirit.

“We conceded a tricky early goal. It is frustrating after you have planned for such a tactical match. Fortunately we were able to get back, we conceded another and we fought back.”

“At a point, I think anxiety set in, in my team,we had couple of chances we could have buried to win it. At the end kudos to both sides.”

Abia Warriors now have to beat Lobi Stars on the last day in Okigwe, their adopted home ground to secure their spot in the NPFL for next season.
