Kun Khalifat FC goalkeeper Obinna Junior Akuchie says he is fully prepared to lead his team to promotion as they begin their campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs in Asaba.
Akuchie, one of the standout performers in the club’s impressive run this season, is expected to play a key role in Kun Khalifat’s push for a place in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The team, representing Imo State, is among eight clubs vying for promotion in the crucial mini-tournament.

Speaking with Sports247 ahead of the Super 8 kickoff, Akuchie emphasised his readiness and the team’s focus. “We’ve been working hard in training. The atmosphere in camp is good and we are mentally prepared for the task ahead,” he said.
Kun Khalifat qualified for the Super 8 after finishing strong in their NNL group. Defender Obinna Amaefula is also tipped as a player to watch, having anchored the team’s backline throughout the season.
The Super 8 playoffs, scheduled to begin this weekend in Asaba, will determine which four teams gain promotion to the top flight. Matches will be played in a round-robin format, with the top teams from each group earning NPFL tickets.
Akuchie added that the team is treating every game as a final. “We want to make history for the club and for the fans back home. This is our moment.”
Kun Khalifat FC was founded in 2020 and has risen rapidly through Nigeria’s football tiers. A successful Super 8 campaign would mark their first-ever appearance in the NPFL.
