Akpoguma Moves To Hannover 96

Hannover 96 of Germany have snatched an early transfer coup, following their acquisition of the signature of Nigerian-born defender, Kevin Akpoguma from Bundesliga rivals, TSG Hoffenheim.

Sports247.ng learnt that Akpoguma, who captained Germany at the Rio 2016 Olympics, arrives on loan and is set to be unveiled by Hannover on Monday, subject to a routine medical.

The agreement between both clubs will see the central defender remain with The Reds until the end of the current seasons, but still holds a long contract with his parent club until June 30, 2021.

Despite his high rating, the 23-year-old Akpoguma has struggled at ‘The Village Team’ this term, with only eight games in the German top division, and says he is happy with the chance to try out elsewhere.

Akpoguma, who started his senior career at Karlsruher, stated: ”I’m really looking forward to the new challenge at 96.

“I want to get on the team quickly, get match practice and play my part in helping us reach our goal and make it into the league.

”It impressed me a lot I’ll do my utmost to make it a loan that will benefit everyone.”
