Akpeyi set to dump Kaiser Chiefs for Belgian club

Super Eagles Goalkeeper and Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa shot stopper, Daniel Akpeyi is said to leave ABSA premiership side for a move to the Belgian League.

Kaizer Chiefs could make a fortune out of their Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi this summer as their are big indications that the huge goal keeper is being eyed by a club in Belgium which the name is still undisclosed.

Sources have claimed that a Belgian side have enquired about the goal keeper’s availability for transfer. “It’s a tempting offer. I don’t know if it has got to the club yet, but it might convince them to let him go,”a reliable source told citizen.co.za. “I believe it is in the region of 40 to 45 million (rand) and that should be enough to sway their management.”

Akpeyi has had a bittersweet stay at Amakhosi, where he has become the first choice ahead of Itumeleng Khune. But Sports247 is able to gather that the Amakhosi fans still prefer Khune, and when the Nigerian makes a mistake they land on to him like a ton of bricks. This could make him jump at a chance to move away to a more recognised league.

Despite his shaky stay at the South Africa based club, Akpeyi in January 2020, prolonged his agreement with the South African Premier Soccer League team by signing a two-year contract that will retain him with the Amakhosi until June 2022

He has been on and off in the super eagles stating eleven. This is as a result of much goal keepers of his calibre in the team, having the likes of Frances Uzohor and Ikechukwu Ezenwa to make a choice from.
