Akor Adams To Lead Super Eagles’ Attack Versus Iran, Jordan; As Osimhen Opts Out

Sevilla of Spain’s in-form striker, Akor Adams is bound to lead the Super Eagles’ attack in their upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan, Sports247 reports.

This is sequel to the absence of Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Victor Osimhen’s name in a list of 23 players released on Wednesday for this month’s international games.

Osimhen opted out on personal grounds, though the games have been moved from Jordan’s capital, Amman to Antalya in Turkey, where he plies his trade for the top placed club in the country’s Super Lig.

A media statement by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed in part, “The Super Eagles will take on Iran’s senior men football team in Antalya on Friday, 27th March, and then the Jordan senior men national team on Tuesday, 31st March.

“Originally scheduled for the 17,000-capacity Amman International Stadium and the 62,000-capacity King Abdullah Sports City Stadium (also in Amman), the games had to be moved to a new venue following the outbreak of military conflict in the Middle East.”

Sports247 reports that Akor is the Eagles’ sure bet as pointman in attack for both matches, but he could be paired with Trabzonspor of Turkey’s in-form hitman, Paul Ebere Onuachu, who is well ahead of debut invitees, Philip Otele from Hamburger SV of Germany and Collins Yira Sor at RKC Genk of Belgium.

It would be another golden opportunity for Akor to cement his status in the Super Eagles’ mainframe, following his regular starting role and exploits at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Akor soared high in the pecking order of Eagles’ strikers, ahead of Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers, who eventually bowed out with an injury, while Tolu Arokodare, Victor Boniface and Kelechi Iheanacho were not in the squad.

Incidentally, Arokodare has also been left out of the Eagles’ latest roster, despite his recent scoring form with Wolverhampton Wanderers of England, while Iheanacho and Boniface are still battling to overcome injuries at their respective bases.

Two other names conspicuously absent in the Eagles’ 23-player list made public on Wednesday are Nottingham Forest right-full-back, Ola Aina and his club’s back-up top striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, who are both also twinkling in the English Premier League.
