Akor Adams Explains His Growing Impact, Relevance At Sevilla of Spain

Sevilla of Spain striker, Akor Adams is relishing his growing impact at the Spanish La Liga club and believes it is due to his determination to focus fully at the team after failing to help Nigeria qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sports247 reports that the 25-year-old forward, who previously played for Sogndal and Lillestrom of Norway as well as Montpellier of France, has become an integral part of Sevilla’s squad and is regularly given a starter’s shirt in their league matches.

Just this past Sunday, while his more popular Nigerian teammate, Chidera Ejuke played as a substitute, Adams was on for 90 minutes of their Seville-based club’s clash with Real Betis.

Although Akor could not score in their 2-0 defeat at home, the fast-growing lad from Benue State appeared in many of the match highlights, and he got several comments in his favour from talking points among the commentators.

Adams has now provided an explanation for his surge into relevance at Sevilla, saying it is mostly because he quickly put behind him thoughts of the Super Eagles’ inability to qualify for the World Cup and focused on his club’s activities.

However, the former youth international and ex-under 23 national team star also admitted that the Eagles’ failure to reach next year’s Mundial is a huge setback for Nigeria as a country as well as for the players and their fans.

He expatiated, “Nigeria is a very big footballing country, and we know what the World Cup means … not just the World Cup, but every single game means a lot to our country.

“We know what every game means to the people of Nigeria, and qualifying for the World Cup would have brought so much joy to us as players … not just the fans and our families.”

He then turned philosophical and noted that his ability to accept the setback as a part of life helped him overcome the World Cup miss and concentrate fully on stamping his relevance at Sevilla.

“As it is in life, so it is in football … you get some of your targets, but you may also miss out on some. This time around, we missed out because DR Congo won it on penalties.

“Personally, I sulked a little, but I returned to my club with an extra dose of determination. I knew that I had to refocus on my activities with Sevilla.

“For the World Cup, it was like we did not take the opportunity, but I can overcome that setback by fixing my focus on what I’m doing at Sevilla,” Adams rationalised.
