Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has thrown his support behind head coach Eric Chelle, urging the Nigeria Football Federation to retain the Franco-Malian tactician amid growing speculation about his future.

Adams described Chelle as a crucial figure in the ongoing transition within the national team, stating that the coach has successfully created balance between experienced players and emerging talents.
“We are in a transition period, and the coach is the bridge between the older players and the new generation,” Adams said.
The striker noted that Chelle has introduced structure, discipline and tactical clarity since taking charge, which he believes has positively influenced performances and unity within the squad.
“He started this project and understands the direction we’re heading. It’s important that he’s given the opportunity to continue what he has built,” he added.
Adams also highlighted the quality within the current Super Eagles pool, stressing that while talent has never been Nigeria’s problem, leadership and consistency are vital.
“We have an amazing group of players. The competition is high, and nobody is allowed to relax. The coach doesn’t tolerate laziness,” he said.
According to the forward, Chelle’s firm but fair management style has helped raise standards in camp, pushing players to remain focused and accountable.
“Everyone knows what is expected of them. That’s important for a team trying to grow,” Adams explained.
With crucial qualifiers and tournaments on the horizon, Adams believes stability at the helm is necessary to maintain progress.
“Changing direction now could slow down the progress we’re making. Continuity is key,” he stated.
While acknowledging that contract decisions ultimately rest with the federation, Adams expressed hope that common ground will be found.
“For the sake of the team and Nigerian football, I hope he stays,” he concluded.
