Akeem Busari Appointed New Flamingos Head Coach in NFF Reshuffle

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Akeem Busari as the new head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos.

Busari replaces Bankole Olowookere, who oversaw a period of notable growth and development for the team during his tenure.

Prior to his appointment,

Busari managed Pacesetters Queens, where he built a reputation for nurturing young talents and fostering competitive football at the domestic level.

The appointment forms part of the NFF’s broader restructuring strategy aimed at strengthening women’s football in Nigeria, particularly within the youth ranks, as the country prepares for upcoming continental and global competitions.

Busari is expected to immediately begin preparations for key fixtures, including qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and African competitions, where Nigeria has consistently been a strong contender.

Sources within the federation indicate that grassroots development and talent identification will be central to his mandate. Nationwide scouting initiatives are set to be intensified in the coming months to discover and groom the next generation of players.

The NFF is also working to improve technical support for youth teams through enhanced training camps, exposure matches, and better welfare packages, all aimed at sustaining Nigeria’s competitiveness in women’s football.

Busari’s appointment has already generated significant interest among stakeholders, with high expectations that his club-level experience will translate into continued success for the Flamingos on the international stage.
