Ajayi finished second in the highly competitive heat, just behind Olympic champion Noah Lyles of the United States.

The Olympic champion won the race in 9.92 seconds while South Africa’s Akani Simbine settled for third place in the thrilling contest.

His qualification marks a proud moment for Nigerian athletics, with history potentially beckoning.

The last Nigerian sprinter to reach the 100m final at the World Championships was Olusoji Fasuba, in 2007 and now it’s Ajayi time.

With his blistering form, the question remains: can Kanyinsola Ajayi challenge Fasuba’s long-standing Nigerian record of 9.85 seconds?
