Aiyenugba Urges Nigeria to Accept FIFA Verdict on DR Congo Petition

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has urged Nigerians to accept whatever decision emerges from FIFA regarding the petition filed by the Nigeria Football Federation against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nigeria had lodged a complaint over alleged breaches of eligibility rules during the World Cup qualification process, but the final verdict from FIFA is still being awaited.

Aiyenugba acknowledged that many fans are hopeful that the ruling could favour Nigeria, but emphasized the importance of preparing for every possible outcome.
“If the verdict goes in our favour, it will be wonderful for Nigeria,” Aiyenugba said.

However, the former shot-stopper stressed that the country must also be ready to move forward if the decision does not go its way.
“If the ruling is against us, we must accept it in good faith,” he added.

Aiyenugba believes the national team already has a solid foundation that can be built upon regardless of the outcome of the case.
“The Super Eagles have a good base right now,” he explained.

He pointed out that the team has shown signs of progress under head coach Eric Chelle, and urged authorities to remain committed to the ongoing rebuilding process.
“What we need now is continuity and patience with the current process,” he noted.

According to Aiyenugba, focusing on development and future competitions should be the priority rather than dwelling on the outcome of the case.
“The most important thing is to keep improving the team,” he said.

He concluded by encouraging fans to remain supportive of the national team.
“No matter the verdict, Nigerian football must keep moving forward,” Aiyenugba stated.
